"Any advice on finding social media internships and trustworthy connections?"
Networking can feel intimidating, especially when you’re just starting out in a competitive field like social media and marketing. But when alumni step in, they turn uncertainty into opportunity and make the process a lot less overwhelming.
For students with big dreams, like combining a love for content creation with the energy of sports, business, or music, alumni connections can be game-changing. They don’t just open doors to internships and jobs, they offer encouragement and remind students that their passions are worth pursuing.
The exchange below between a Wooster student and an alum is a perfect example. What began as a simple question about finding internships became the start of a meaningful connection built on a shared love of music. It’s proof that when alumni show up with real-world experience and a willingness to help, students gain more than advice. They gain inspiration and confidence to take their next step forward.
I’m a communications student interested in social media management for businesses and sports teams. I’ve been struggling to find internships since many require prior experience, even though they’re meant to be entry-level. I’ve promoted my own art brand and band, but it doesn’t seem to count.
I’d love advice on how to network, find trustworthy contacts, and discover internships that fit my passion for content creation and behind-the-scenes filming.
I’d love to help however I can. Please send me some of your work so I can get a better sense of what you’re doing.
I still have many connections in the music industry from my time managing field marketing and media offices in Chicago and New York for Anheuser-Busch. Back then, I worked on media deals and promotional campaigns for major tours like the Rolling Stones, Genesis, Steve Winwood, and Cheap Trick. Those were exciting, fast-paced times, and I’d be happy to use my network to support you as you get started.
I appreciated the ease of the process to respond at my own convenience and via the channel that worked best for me. I am happy to have the opportunity to provide advice and possible assistance to members of the Wooster community and hope it’s useful to those students and alumni who reach out.
Let’s find a time for Max & team to show you just how smart, simple, and scalable it can truly be for alumni and students to connect to one another for advice and support. We promise you’ll be inspired by how artificial intelligence can be a force for good.
