Young Alumni Career Support

"As a recent graduate, how do I start a career in policy or lobbying?"

Scale matters. Especially in alumni networks.

Here’s what it means to be a Buckeye for life.

A recent graduate asked about entry-level roles in policy or lobbying. Nine alumni responded, five within 24 hours.

Several offered to share their career paths. One surfaced a newly posted role that could be a strong fit.

Every responding alum rated the interaction 10 out of 10.

For context, the average question receives 2.3 responses, with first engagement typically after two days.

This was an outlier.

But it reinforces something important: alumni want to help. When the ask is simple and meaningful, engagement follows.

Question

I am a recent graduate and interested in becoming a lobbyist or policy analyst. But how do I get started? What are entry level jobs that I should look for?

I really appreciate your help!

Hi! I work at a public affairs firm in Columbus and saw your question about getting started in policy or lobbying. I’m happy to connect and talk through potential career paths.

One of our clients recently shared an entry-level local public affairs opening that could be a strong fit. I’d also be glad to arrange a time for you to shadow me at the Statehouse to get a closer look at the work.

Feel free to reach out and we can coordinate next steps.
