The "ask"

I am a graduating student at WGU in 2025 with a degree in Technology. I’m transitioning into data analytics and am excited to start the B.S. degree program. I’m particularly interested in the intersection of technology and education, and I’m hoping to leverage my skills to make a positive impact in the field.

I’m reaching out to you because I’m seeking advice from alumni who have gone on to work in data analytics. I’d be grateful if you could share your insights on which aspects of the WGU curriculum proved most valuable in your career journey. Additionally, are there any specific areas of study or skills that you feel are particularly crucial for success in the field?

The "give"

Hi, thank you so much for reaching out to me. I’d say Python and SQL classes were one of the most important. It was not difficult for me because I already have experience with them. However, I’ve seen students struggle with those classes a lot. Make sure that you have a good grab of the knowledge. SQL and Python are what I use every day at work. R is also powerful. Once you understand one programming language, learning another programming language is not that difficult. Logic is still the same.

The follow-up

Thank you. This is exactly the sort of targeting I was looking for. I’ve been using SQL but Python is going to be a new experience for me. Knowing that you use it every day will help me appreciate the value of going for a maximal grasp of how to use it.
