Reconciling two career paths, such as transitioning from technology to data analytics, can unlock opportunities to combine diverse skills in innovative ways. Engaging with those who have navigated similar journeys provides fresh perspectives, inspiration, and actionable guidance.
This WGU student used the Ask A Grad platform to seek advice and received thoughtful responses that reshaped how he approached his coursework and career planning. The feedback sparked new ideas, encouraging him to think more deeply about where he wants to end up and how his studies can align with his goals. These meaningful interactions demonstrate how connecting with others can illuminate new paths and opportunities.
Keep it simple,
Max
I am a graduating student at WGU in 2025 with a degree in Technology. I’m transitioning into data analytics and am excited to start the B.S. degree program. I’m particularly interested in the intersection of technology and education, and I’m hoping to leverage my skills to make a positive impact in the field.
I’m reaching out to you because I’m seeking advice from alumni who have gone on to work in data analytics. I’d be grateful if you could share your insights on which aspects of the WGU curriculum proved most valuable in your career journey. Additionally, are there any specific areas of study or skills that you feel are particularly crucial for success in the field?
Thank you so much for your time and assistance.
Hi, thank you so much for reaching out to me. I’d say Python and SQL classes were one of the most important. It was not difficult for me because I already have experience with them. However, I’ve seen students struggle with those classes a lot. Make sure that you have a good grab of the knowledge. SQL and Python are what I use every day at work. R is also powerful. Once you understand one programming language, learning another programming language is not that difficult. Logic is still the same. |
Thank you. This is exactly the sort of targeting I was looking for. I’ve been using SQL but Python is going to be a new experience for me. Knowing that you use it every day will help me appreciate the value of going for a maximal grasp of how to use it.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your knowledge.
This is one of the best tools I have found at WGU. Like having access to a selection of mentors who have been exactly where you are and are now exactly where you want to be. It’s great hearing how they made that journey, and getting their guidance on the steps and missteps to watch out for. |
