Hi there,
I am in the Data Analytics program and am looking for success tips that will make more competitive as I work to finish my program over the next 1.5 years. My goal is to put myself in a position that can help me land an interview/role with a consulting or tech company. What were the steps you took that got you your position and is there any advice you might have to get my foot in the door before graduating? I currently serve as a data analyst for a major hospital in Washington, DC and am looking for some advice given the current job market.
Thanking you in advance,
Hi there, I’m glad you reached out for advice as you navigate your journey in Data Analytics. Let me share a bit about my path and some tips that might help you along the way. I began my career with a certification in data analytics through a Google program, but my background is quite diverse.
Before diving into data analytics, I earned a bachelor’s degree in Fashion and a master’s degree in Occupational Technical Studies. The certification in data analytics opened doors for me, leading to my first role as a Supply Chain Analyst. Eventually, I transitioned into the tech industry, securing a position as an Analytics Coordinator. This experience motivated me to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application, so I pursued a second master’s in Data Analytics at WGU. That decision paid off, and I was promoted to Associate Insights Data Analyst.
You’re already in a great position by working as a data analyst at a major hospital. That experience is invaluable and will be a strong asset as you apply for roles.
My suggestion is to apply broadly to positions that align with your interests, even if the tech sector is a bit challenging right now. The benefits can be significant, and your current experience proves you have what it takes. Stay persistent, keep honing your skills, and continue applying. I’m confident you’ll land a great opportunity.
Best of luck, and feel free to reach out if you need more advice.
