ASPIRING SIU FIRST-GEN STUDENT ENTREPRENEUR LOOKING FOR HELP REVITALIZING HER COMMUNITY

By MAX LEISTEN

Universities are gold mines of good will, social capital that can enable meaningful outcomes for alumni, students, faculty and even staff. I often share stories of connections we’ve helped spark that would otherwise never have happened because (a) we all love stories and (b) because that “impact” fuels us here (just like impact fuels alumni).

The "ask"

Hi! My name is STUDENT.

I am currently a Junior, pursuing a Business Management degree with a specialization in Entrepreneurship. I am a first-generation college student, and am so happy to be here at SIU!

I am looking into starting my own business after graduating. I am from the small town of TOWN and we will recently be without a florist in our town, and I am hoping to provide that service to my town.

I would love to be able to chat with an experienced small business owner, or florist, about how they got started, business plans, budgeting, etc.

Thank you for your time and help! I greatly appreciate it!

The "give"

Hello Sister Saluki!

I am a retired florist. I was a florist for over thirty years. I worked for a company and then opened my own business. Give me a call, text or email EMAIL, and I will be happy to share what I know. Best to you.

Sincerely

ALUM
