Breaking into a career with international organizations is both exciting and a little nerve-wracking—especially when you’re aiming for that perfect role.

For this LSE student, gearing up for her UNDP interview feels like a huge step forward. Getting the right advice can really help—calming those nerves and showing off her experience and passion with confidence.

Hearing from people who’ve been there before can turn doubts into opportunities and make an interview feel like the first step toward that dream job.

Here’s her story as she gets ready for an interview that could shape her future

The "ask"

Hello, this is my first time using this fantastic tool. I am a mature part-time student in Development Management at the LSE. I have 10+ years of experience and am seeking a job in an international organisation.

I’ve applied for a remote position at the UNDP’s regional office for Latin America and the Caribbean (Project Analyst on Governance and Gender). I’m thrilled to have reached the interview stage, which will take place very soon. I would be most grateful for any advice for my preparation or the interview itself!

Thank you very much in advance for your time and insights.

The "give" (1 of 13!)

Hi, what an interesting tool! I am happy to send over any insights for the interview.

UNDP interview questions generally tend to be competency based, you will be scored well when you provide demonstrated examples from your experience. Some points for you to think about:

– They will ask you about your experience and how you fit for this role

– How have you delivered a successful project, provide examples and what your role was to contribute to success

– How have you managed conflicts

– How have you managed and prioritised conflicting deadlines

– How have you been innovative in your approaches (UNDP is big on innovation)

– Then a technical question UNDP also values previous UN experience, if you do not have it, then discuss how you get things done in a bureaucracy. I have sat on several interview panels, so I am happy to guide you further if needed. My email is below. Congratulations on coming this far!

Best.
