By MAX LEISTEN

Finding advice from alumni can be incredibly valuable when exploring open roles in the insights and research sector. For instance, the experience of this soon-to-graduate connecting with LSE alumni through this platform provided not only inspiration but also practical guidance. Their experiences and words of encouragement offered clarity and confidence, helping to shape career goals.

Many alumni were eager to engage with her in coffee chats, answering questions in detail and sharing invaluable advice about the industry. Their willingness to help demonstrates the strength of the LSE alumni network and its commitment to supporting students and recent graduates in finding fulfilling career opportunities.

Keep it simple,

Max

The "ask"

Hi! I’m a soon-to-be graduate of MSc Gender, Media & Culture at the end of 2024. Originally from Hong Kong, I’m currently seeking a full-time role in London in insights research (e.g Research & Insights Executive/Analyst) as I’m passionate about cultural trends, consumer behaviour and cultural/qualitative research! Aside from doing lots of qualitative research in academia, some of my other work experience includes market research, creative marketing and dance teaching.

I’ve been struggling to find open roles in the insights research sector and have found it difficult to find roles aligning with my specialism in qualitative and cultural research. I would be grateful to hear from alumni who could share any advice regarding job searching, applications, ways to make oneself more competitive, or provide industry awareness more generally!

Thanks in advance for your help and I’d be open to chatting and connecting further via email.

The "give"

HI. I would be happy to help and support. I have been in market research for some 20 years, starting a trainee in 1999, having worked on both supplier and client side, so I hope I can share some perspectives.

Intrigued to hear your interest as perhaps market research and customer insight might not be the normal route out of LSE, but it worked for me 🙂

Probably best to have a chat if you are ok with it – allowing you to answer any questions you may have, small and big. I am in Sweden so need to be a digital meeting. I do not know your availability, but I can share my availability for next week in case some of it would suit you – all CET slots (one hour ahead of you if you are in London)

Mon 11th, before 11 or between 11.30-14
Tues 12th between 11.30-13.30
Fri 15th – all day after 10.00

If next week does not work for you, let me know and we can look at the week(s) after.

Best Regards

PS: Happy if you also email me directly at ****

The feedback (From the asker)

I started at LSE not knowing what my future career would look like, till I started connecting with alumni through this platform and was inspired by their experiences and words of encouragement! The LSE alumni community have all been really helpful, and often happy to have a coffee chat to answer all my questions in detail.
