FSU GRADUATE SEEKING MENTAL HEALTH JOB OPPORTUNITIES

By MAX LEISTEN

Our engagement data couldn’t be clearer: Don’t ask alumni for a job. Very few will respond because (a) they don’t have or know of a job opening and (b) subsequently feel terrible about not being able to help someone who needs work.

The below request from a recent FSU graduate is a borderline job search — and our algorithms had to work a bit harder (recruited about twice as many alumni as “normal”). We had multiple alumni respond not just because of the “new to town” aspect but also the high impact role.

We of course pay close attention to this correlation to help us optimize our machine learning algorithms. And while we’re super proud that on average 92% of requests get at least one response, we won’t rest until everyone is heard.

Keep it simple!

The "ask"

Hey! I graduated from FSU a year early in 2023 with my Bachelors in Psychology and Social Work. I am moving up to Boston in late July and would love to get into the mental health field in any capacity. I am hardworking, driven, and dedicated to aiding in our overall mental healthcare system as well as easier accessibility to it for all.

I am looking to get connected with individuals who can help me in my job search for mental healthcare positions or anything in the area of psychology. I have been looking into intake/admissions positions, rehabilitation facilities, and working with intellectually impaired children and adolescents. I am open to anything that can help me get my foot in the door!

Thank you so much in advance for your help, looking forward to connecting!

The "give" (1 of 2)

Hey! I’m so excited to hear that you’ve decided to look for work in Boston! I adore working in the mental health field in this state especially, and find that there’s a ton of opportunity for a really dynamic work experience depending on what you’re looking to do.

I work in the HRI Clinics network, which also encompasses the Arbour Counseling offices. I’m wondering, do you plan on having a car when you relocate? Having one will really broaden the scope of what’s possible for you, but it’s absolutely possible to work in mental health in Boston without it.

Some great companies to look into right off the cuff are:

  • Walden Behavioral Care (eating disorders clinic)
  • Franciscan Children’s Community Based Acute Treatment (they seem to be hiring Bachelors level somewhat frequently)
  • Renfrew Elliot Community Human Services
  • And the HRI / Arbour inpatients and PHPs also hire at a bachelors level I believe.

There are lots and lots of mental health services around here, but these ones are a good place to start from what I’ve learned over the years. Where all have you looked so far?

Best wishes.
