UNCSA ADMITTED STUDENT SEEKING PRE-COLLEGE EXPERIENCE

It’s enrollment season and we’re seeing our first questions from admitted students. Here’s a fantastic and frankly intimidating one from an upcoming Scenic Design student at the UNC School Of The Arts.
Intimidating because I couldn’t imagine at that age to be thinking about gaining experience before heading to college. I was more focused on the campus, housing, food, “one last vacation.”
The beauty of what we do is that we get to see a LOT of questions from students that are curious, passionate, driven. Even those with relatively little social capital are often focused and very specific with what they need help with.
Maybe in my next life 😉

The "ask"
Hi, I’m STUDENT. I am currently a senior at SCHOOL in south Florida. I specialize in scenic design and have a passion for lighting design. I will be going to UNCSA for scenic.
I am currently trying to find a summer stalk, or technical program I can do for my last summer before college, I would prefer a program close to home in South Florida, but I also have housing in Missouri, and wouldn’t be against living on my own somewhere else. I’d prefer a paying technical job, but education and experience is my number one priority, I can provide a resume and portfolio.

I’m ALUM – I graduated from the Lighting department in 2020 and I’m currently a lighting designer at Walt Disney Imagineering (based in Orlando.)
Really great that you’re being proactive and reaching out right now – a lot of students tend to wait until last minute when it’s significantly harder to find internships and education opportunities.
