UNCSA DANCE MAJOR SEEKS HARLEM PROGRAMS TO INSPIRE STUDENTS WITH PLUCK

The Pluck Project, a distinguished initiative by the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA), showcases the artistic excellence and dedication of its graduating contemporary dance students. This program is a capstone experience that allows these emerging artists to perform and engage with diverse communities, emphasizing the transformative power of contemporary dance.

Through Protopia’s AI-driven platform, a member of the Pluck team sought guidance to expand their outreach in Harlem, connecting with alumni and community leaders. These connections provided invaluable insights into potential teaching and performance opportunities, helping Pluck continue its mission of inspiring students and fostering a deeper appreciation for the fine arts.

The "ask"

I am a Dance major graduating from UNCSA in 2025. I’m reaching out as part of the outreach team for this year’s Pluck, a program focused on connecting with students in the Harlem area. We’re hoping to build meaningful relationships in New York and are looking for advice on potential programs or organizations in Harlem where we could teach or perform.

Our goal is to engage with students and highlight the importance of fine arts in an academic setting. I would be grateful for any insights you might have on organizations or programs in Harlem that could be a good fit for Pluck.

I run a program here in New York, and we own a building with dance studios. While not in Harlem, (we are in midtown Manhattan) we do have students who attend the program and live in Harlem.

One of our graduates also graduated from UNCSA and danced for Dance Theatre of Harlem. (He is now getting ready to make his Broadway debut!) But maybe he could offer an introduction to them.
